DGDUB’S CFB WEEKLY UPDATE

The College Football Season is less than two weeks away, and it’s time to start getting pumped up for Saturday football. For those who love football there’s nothing better than Saturday during the CFB season. It may be a little early to evaluate top teams and gauge how they will perform throughout the season, but we can take a quick look at the Power 5 conferences and teams with high expectations.

SEC

Obviously, this conference is led by Alabama, which has been in each playoff since CFB changed to the playoff system. LSU and Auburn are expected to be much improved, and Georgia could be a wildcard in this conference. Florida and Tennessee might be a step behind these other schools, but on any given Saturday they could change the landscape of the conference.

ACC

This is still a two team conference with Florida State and Clemson. Although, Clemson might take a step back with big losses to the NFL this past draft. Maybe Louisville can continue to gain momentum from last year, but until then it’s hard to count on them. This conference really needs Miami or Virginia Tech to resurrect their programs to have a competitive balance and not be so top heavy.

BIG 12

Honestly, calling this a Power 5 conference is an injustice to the other 4 conferences. Oklahoma should be a quality team, and Oklahoma State will be an offensive juggernaut, but until Tom Herman gets Texas turned around this conference is lackluster.

BIG 10

This conference is loaded at the top. They ended last season with 4 teams in the AP Top 10, and every one of those teams may actually be better this year. Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State will be battling for the Big 10 East division crown. Wisconsin will probably win the West division again.

PAC 12

It feels like a two team conference, with Washington and USC on a collision course to the PAC 12 championship game. Stanford, Washington State, and UCLA will be solid teams, but they feel like a step behind Washington and USC. There are some other teams to keep an eye on, like Colorado and Oregon. If Colorado can build on a successful 2016 campaign they could be a challenge.
