DgDUB’s CFB Weekly Update

It’s hard to believe, but we are already entering week 9 of the college football season. Currently, there are still 6 undefeated teams in the top ten, which will make for some intriguing games down the stretch. The first CFB Playoff committee ranking comes out on Halloween, Oct. 31st. Let’s take a look at some of the more interesting conversations heading into week 9.

Notre Dame:

One loss Notre Dame destroyed USC in prime time on Saturday. They have yet to really enter the playoff discussion until this year. They still have some tough games on the schedule (#14 NC St, at #8 Miami, at #20 Stanford), but if they run the table they will be a lock for the CFB Playoff. Of course, that would mean at least two Power 5 Conferences would not get a birth.

Heisman:

Saquon Barkley is beginning to distance himself as the Heisman front runner after another dominant performance last Saturday versus Michigan. Bryce Love from Stanford is not out of the picture. Love set the Stanford single game rushing record with 301 yards versus Arizona St a couple weeks ago. I would put Baker Mayfield at 3rd on this list, so as of now these 3 would be the Heisman finalists.

Game of the Week:

Without question the biggest game of the week is #2 Penn State at #6 The Ohio State. Hopefully, this game will live up to the hype. The weird backstory to this game is that actually both teams can look at this as a “revenge” game. Last year, then #2 The Ohio State lost in Happy Valley to then unranked Penn State. Penn State went on to win the Big 10 championship, but it was the Buckeyes who went to the CFB Playoff leaving the Nittany Lions on the outside looking in. Needless to say, both teams feel they have something to prove in the Horseshoe on Saturday.
