Wilson was drafted #32. Clowney was made out to be “most electrifying and fearsome defensive prospect around” and “the next Lawrence Taylor” and taken #1. He’s had microfracture surgery and his work ethic has been questioned by Houston and his college coach. Maybe too early to label him a bust but Houston has to be pretty disappointed.

His junior year was his worst and he was playing injured and trying to protect himself while not being paid. As a SC fan and alum…I understood. He had nothing left to prove. He showed he was worthy of the #1 pick his previous 2 years and I don’t blame him for not wanting to risk himself for school spirit.

In fairness too…he’s playing out of position as a 3-4 OLB. I think he’d be more effective in the 4-3 as a DE but I’m not going to pretend like he’s not supremely talented due to an injury plagued season. He gets his day in court and I would gladly wager he’ll pan out in the long run.

I don’t blame Houston for picking Clowney (although maybe they could have been better served by working out a trade for a QB) but where the rubber meets the road, Clowney has done next to nothing to help the Texans so far. Maybe that changes this year but starting training camp on PUP doesn’t bode well for the near term.

There’s a reason Brandon Scherff’s official Iowa highlight reel starts with him in the weight room. Around the iron, the man is inhuman: Legend has it they had to invent colors for the heavier weights he’d use on the clean platform. For offensive line lovers, it’s plays like this that make Scherff so damn fun: He’s mean. Like, reallymean. He enjoys finishing people, and that’s something any offensive line coach will salivate over. When you take that attitude and blend it with a guy who can squat the Willis Tower, it’s hard to see a future that doesn’t include Scherff anchoring someone’s line for the next decade.

That’s what Paea discovered last season. But if Kim needs a walking endorsement, he has one in Paea. In his first three seasons, the former Chicago lineman had never recorded more than 2.5 sacks. Last season, he posted six and he credited his work with Kim as part of the reason. But Paea said it took until the second game for the new techniques to feel comfortable.
“He would teach it different than most coaches,” Paea said.
For example, linemen typically are taught to make contact with an offensive lineman’s forearm/wrist area. Paea said Kim teaches them to aim for the elbow. The theory: It’s easier for a linemen to reload his arms if hit in the forearm vs. the elbow.
“The elbow goes all the way back and then when they try to go back [at you], you’re already gone,” Paea said.
“A lot of it is feel,” Murphy said. “[But] when you get their wrist, they can replace their hands faster.”
And, Paea said, Kim teaches them footwork to make sure they don’t turn their bodies too much (which could prompt them to lose their one-on-one battle). In a two-sack game vs. Tampa Bay last season, Paea worked inside the guard and, after making contact, he maintained his feet so that his body was square to the line. It allowed him to be a little quicker and the guard couldn’t recover.
Kim, with his 10th NFL team, focuses on taekwondo techniques — all the Redskins worked more with their hands this spring than in the past. He’s also big on foot and hip placement. But he wants players to get their handwork down before he moves onto the lower body.
“You can’t microwave this stuff,” Kim said. “This team caught on real fast.”Not too many skull forking secrets Paea!!!!

I haven’t asked anyone just yet. But it would be hard to play Knighton a lot because they’d likely be in a lot of nickel situations against teams such as Philadelphia and New England. However, my guess is he’ll still play. Denver played a 4-3, so it’s not a direct comparison, but against the Eagles in 2013, Knighton played 40 snaps and vs. New England last season he played 41 (he played 30 against the Colts). Certainly, Denver would have been in nickel looks much of the time, and the Redskins’ nickel is more of a 4-3 look. So you can play him in those games and still be at his best.

used to work for a chain pub company called Wetherspoon, and every

free pint of beer brings out a lot of people who just don’t know

complaints of “this well done steak is overcooked,” or “I ordered medium

hell out of that steak. Normally, I won’t send anything out that I
wouldn’t serve to a member of my family, so as my Mum often takes hers
well done, I was satisfied we’d done a good job and thought nothing more
of it. Until it came back…
“The customer wants a fresh steak as there’s still some pink in this one.”
“Oh…really? Ok.” A fresh steak goes on the grill. “Tell them it’ll be about 10 minutes at least.”
The member of staff comes back as soon as they’ve been to the table.
“Right, they’ve said they need it absolutely charred so it doesn’t even resemble meat anymore.”

1. The only reason Hardy is 4 games (and will go to 2 games if he legally appeals) is that his event happened prior to the new punishment levels.
2. Brady has multiple offenses here : delaftion of the balls,refusing to cooperate, and second offender (this is a reflection on the Pats).
3. Brady got accolades in the press for his testimony of the appeal but obviously has screwed himself in his handling of this total debacle. Really, admitting that you destroyed evidence the day you were to testify? Would Hardy do that – no the scumbag would lie !!!

A rookie and a (AP caliber) guy who hasn’t played in a year, and a 2nd year guy who came on strong at the end of last year are the big “improvements”, and those are things that might pan out this year or they might not.

All other things equal…Cowboys will be about second in Sacks with about 40.

Cowboys D will be on the field more with a lesser rush and TOP than last year.

Eagles: About the same other than an increase in TOP keeping defense on the sidelines.
Giants: No JPP or at least greatly reduced.
Skins: Does anyone follow the Skins, they haven’t been a threat in so long I haven’t a clue if they got any better.

In games that Joseph Randle has carried the ball double digits he has been one of the worst RB’s in the league getting 1.5,1.9, 2.8 and 3.4 yards per carry and 1 rushing td. Not exactly the numbers you want from your #1 RB.

Turner is the stud SS they stole from SD this offseason who was the “player to be named later” that SD had to watch tear up the minors for 3 months before he could move.
Taylor has filled in well for Span and is his likely eventual replacement next year.

My guess:
Hardy cut a deal to get to 4 games, no fed lawsuit.
Brady case is winnable in court so Goodell is taking him to task now.

Goodell is doing this to consolidate his (the owners) power to reduce the NFLPA from these legal appeals. This case (more than Hardy’s) is winnable at the federal court level, therefore Goodell is willing to make it the test case to alter the balance of power between owners and NFLPA….

The case is about whether the NFL did this correctly and I just don’t see how they get around the lack of cooperation. Goodell has no conflict here, its laid out in the NFLPA that he is the judge for appeals too…

Since they had the comms from the ball boys and not from Brady, this is the source of the lack of communications charge. Brady was given every opportunity to provide documentation that was exculpatory and didn’t.

Court isn’t going to consider his ‘right’ to not turn over his mobile. He did not avail himself of a defense. Not the same at all.

Dog Days Of Summer Subpeona power would extend to the lawyers and phone company….that is, it is likely that his lawyers made copies of everything so they would know the real story. If this gets to an open court (that is beyond the narrow legal question of whether Goodell has the authority) then discovery will require that stuff be turned over.

I will tell you that his attornies will not thwart the court for him at any price. At the federal level its jail time when lawyers play that game.

I think it is even money that if he goes forward it will be a convaluted legal question that doesn’t open the door for mutual, full discovery.

For example, Brady could file a suit for defamation against the NFL – but he won’t.

Brady was given a chance to cooperate and provide copies of emails and texts related to team communications – he didn’t.

That is why he is getting suspended, not because he didn’t turn over hs cell phone.

1. Anything done or not done by other teams will have any impact on the proceedings. The federal court isn’t there to determine anything more than whether the NFL appropriately followed the NFLPA. That some other team did or didn’t do something won’t be before the court.
2. The NFL has jump started the process by filing in NY if reports are correct. That starts the clock ticking. So far, I am hearing that Brady might file an injunction. I doubt that will work since from the leagues perspective the main issue is Brady’s lack of cooperation and there is clear evidence of that – Brady’s own testimony and that of his assistant that he ordered her to have his cell phone destroyed a few days before his interview with Wells.
3. Brady’s legal team won’t be empowered to ‘drag it out’. There is very limited opportunities to delay at the federal level. The federal appeals court will only be taking up matters of law with limited use of discovery, etc. Since this isn’t a civil suit, there just isn’t that latitude. It’s possible that they get an injunction but it could mean that it gets decided and upheld right in the middle of the playoffs as Brady loses control of the schedule….

I think he fights it but if there is no injunction he drops the whole thing in the ‘interest of the team’….

– They are papering over the entire discussion of cooperating with the investigation. They are trying to focus on the deflation….
– The NFLPA is the notice itself.
– The NFLPA uses the standard of ‘more probable than not’ not ‘beyond reasonable doubt’.
– Not true. The day of the incident, all balls were tested prior to the game. THEN the balls were altered. The league’s new policy is to ensure this doesn’t happen again.
– Brady provided no text or emails responsive to the investigation, the NFL had damning emails and texts between and with the ball boys. They asked for his side of comms including texts and email and he provided no exculpatory materials.
– We will see how successful they are….I suspect they have no choice.

This is a high level test case to ratify that commissioners power…or not.

How’d that turn out. Never underestimate the level of bullshit lawyers are willing to toss into the media. The NFL has much more the gain that Brady in this. What I see is the NFL taking a position that will influence all cases going forward and Brady taking lawyered positions about cell phone rights and levels of proof not required under the NFLPA.

As has been reported, if the NFL has already filed for the court in NY to ratify the decision they are forcing Brady’s hand….the only direction they are trying to force him is into withdrawal.

We will see, I do agree that Brady wants to fight. I just think he doesn’t have the ability to provide any new information to change the situation. By testifying (under oath) that he destroyed the evidence he made the case for the NFL AND prevented himself from selectively releasing texts that may appear to indicate his innocence.

His reputation is going to take a bigger and bigger hit. If he does ‘fight to the death’ and loses he will be in ARod’s category with the public ‘super case’ that fizzles…..

At the end of the day if he loses the ramifications are huge for him. However, if he says ‘this is all bullshit but I don’t want to screw my team up for the year, yada, yada….

If you recall a few weeks ago there was some public discussion from the NFL about the NFLPA spending a lot of legal costs on just a few players, etc.

I think the NFL wanted a big name to either capitulate or go to court and lose. I think they know they have a really strong case. If they win, the NFLPA is emasculated for the most part. With the Commish hearing all future appeals, the owners get exactly what they want.

Bill_In_FL This is them just trying to maximize the number of RBs on their roster for open tryiouts, I’m guessing if none of these guys impress them, they’ll go back to Williams, who if healthy can actually do a bit of power running, something that no other RB on the roster can do short of their fullbacks.
