Coaching is important and better coaches produce better players; and
Recruiting is important and better recruiters recruit better players.
If you have a long-time coaching staff in place, that recruits better WRs in this case, and then a coaching staff in place that coaches that position group better, you will turn out better WRs. Or whatever position.

Okay, so I can’t resist. I have to post. Just gotta say that Monday night’s game was a hard game to
watch – play was mostly putrid on both sides. In fact, the level of
football played Monday night was downright embarrassing for a football fan. My wife is not a serious fan and doesn’t understand football as much as she thinks she does, but even she was laughing at both teams ineptitude and talking about how boring the game was (except for the last 1:49s). Not two good teams slugging it out in a defensive struggle (which I would have truly enjoyed), but two inept teams vying for the title of ‘most inept’.
Based on that game (and the Giants game) I think the NFL should declare that NO team from the NFC Least should play a playoff game. Give the home playoff game to the best ‘Wild Card’ team and let them play the team in the NFC with the 3rd best record (which I confidently predict will not be ANY team in the NFC Least. We collectively suck donkey balls.

God bless Jason Garrett for that shitshow last week. After DeSean Jackson pulled a DeSean Jackson, all the Cowboys had to do was squat on the ball and then kick it. Instead, Garrett gave the ball to a running back who had already fumbled TWICE. To me, that’s an even bigger crime than what Darren McFadden did with the ball (ran out of bounds, then scored on the next carry without using any of the clock). Anyway, without that terrible sequence, you wouldn’t have had such an exciting ending to that game. Garrett’s idiocy led directly to 10 ADDITIONAL points scored in the final minute! That’s great bad coaching.

Okay, say they get a 1st down on that play instead of a TD. First, you’re giving Dallas a LOT of credit for being even a decent offense, they aren’t. Second, you’re assuming that Dallas wouldn’t have coughed up the ball (McFadden had already fumbled 2x) on the ensuing sequence.
Say Dallas gets a 1st down on that play (which I think was Garrett’s expectation). Washington had 2 TOs, so 1st & 2nd down Dallas runs the ball and those plays take about 8 secs (due to Washington’s TOs). 3rd down takes 40 secs, 4th another 39. There’s no way that Dallas could run the clock down to 5 secs when they kick a FG. Washington would have gotten the ball back with 20+ secs and, as we saw with the ensuing KO + penalty, that would have been more than enough time to get off a FG to tie. I think people would be screaming ‘idiot’ at Garrett for blowing the game by not going for a TD.

Not exactly. Murray has a $7mil guaranteed salary in 2016. If the Eagles cut him they are still on the hook to pay the entire amount & it will count against their cap. The ‘offset’ language means that the Eagles can deduct from that $7 million whatever salary Murray agrees to with his ‘new’ team. for example, If his new salary is $5mil then the Eagles still take a $2mil cap hit and have to pay Murray $2 mil. The only case in which they get the entire $7mil ‘freed up’ is if his new team signs him for a $7mil salary or higher. Odds of that are not high

Sounds like they are describing McCoy. Murray has never had a ‘burst’, especially at the second level. He also doesn’t have the ability to make guys miss, he has the ability to stay on his feet and keep moving forward after he’s hit. He’s a 1 cut & go guy, he has the ability to identify the right hole and hit it.

Murray is too patient & is too O-Line dependent. Can run like that behind an inconsistent line. Like Chip has next year, Murray might stay put & be able to redeem himself. Won’t surprise me though if he’s gone.

Well, they’ve run him more out of shotgun than he did in Dallas, in fact, I think that most of his carries in Philly are out of shotgun and trying to get the edge wide. He wasn’t successful in Dallas when they tried that either. He was most successful with inside zone plays where he makes his decision on where to go by the time he takes his third step. Murray wasn’t very successful @ outside zone or sweeps in Dallas either.
Bill_In_FL That’s the problem with the inside zone plays the Eagles run. Barbre & Tobin are the worst starting guards in the division. To the point where it feels like when they make & sustain a block, it’s an accident. The line as a whole has been inconsistent. Murray spends too much time waiting for things to develop/open up. Can’t be doing that with a bad OL. Meaning Murray has to be more decisive. Murray is not doing that. Therefore, he can sit for all I care.
Chip bears alot of blame for not running more plays from under center in order to better utilize Murray though. There’s no excuse for that at all no matter how bad our OL sucks

That was the Dallas ‘book’ on Murray, that he was a very good back who fit well in Dallas’ system, but he wasn’t an elite back and, because of that, they weren’t going to pay him ‘elite’ back money.
Turns out McFadden doesn’t fit well in Dallas’ system either, touch him and he falls down. I think Turbin fits better than Mcfadden. Turbin is a punisher (not as good as Murray) and doesn’t go down at the first touch. He’s never going to break one off and take it to the house, he probably isn’t going to get you 20 yds either. But, he will get you positive yardage most of the time.

LOL, I learned that you shouldn’t charge into your opponent’s fist/foot like that in one of my first full contact karate tourneys. Seems to me that Jeff McLane doesn’t understand Murray’s contract. In his ‘hit piece’ on Murray v Mccoy (yes, I know it’s an exaggeration, but it’s a conversational ploy), he says, “His $8 million salary and the $13 million
salary cap hit the Eagles take next season suggest Murray couldn’t go
anywhere even if he wanted to.” He’s confusing ‘dead money’, which would be $13mil in 2016, with ‘cap hit’, which would be $5mil in 2016. He’s also confusing prorated bonus with salary. Murray has a $7mill guaranteed salary in 2016 and has a $1mil prorated cap charge for ‘bonus’, so his ‘salary in 2016 is not $8mil, it’s $7mil, Murray has already gotten the bonus money. Further, because of the offset language in Murray’s contract, if they cut him and he signs with another team (likely), whatever salary he gets from his new team is deducted from his $7mil guaranteed 2016 salary with the Eagles, which would lessen his cap hit by the amount of the new salary.

Now why would Dallas trade for a contract they weren’t willing to give in the first place, not to mention that any trade would have to occur next year? They weren’t willing to pay him $7mil/yr this year and, if they trade for him in 2016, they’d have to pay him $7 mil guaranteed.
I somehow doubt that any team would trade for Murray’s current deal and I don’t think he would be willing to redo his deal, why should he?

Of course the IR of Romo and Dez was a major hit the defense played better and worse with Hardy. Total defense is improved but turnovers are way down.
We will see but its actually to late to re-claim the character mantle. Will be disappointed if they re-sign him.
They would do better to look at Jalen Ramsey in round 1 and look for a RB later.

Resources? Davis was a 2nd rounder in 2008 (an extra pick from moving down). Niles Paul was a 5th round pick in 2011 (an extra pick from the Jammal Brown trade). Jordan Reed was a 3rd rounder in 2013. 3 picks in 8 drafts who were between the 2nd and 5th rounds. Seems normal at worst.

I keep seeing people in here claiming Dez is a top 10 WR yet he looks like a 2nd or 3rd string WR at best this season. Yesterday he was covered by a 3rd string rookie and only caught 1 ball for 9 yards. Any of the top WR’s in the league would have had at least 5 to 10 receptions and 80 to 150 yards and a couple TD’s against that guy. It’s hard to claim Dez is a good WR when he has 3 times the amount of drops than catches against a 3rd string rookie.
This was supposed to be Dez Bryant’s revenge game, a day on which he could finally put the controversial non-catch call from the playoffs last season behind him.
In the same stadium where the Cowboys’ season ended in January, Bryant couldn’t escape the ghosts of Lambeau Field.
Instead, it was more misery for Bryant against Green Bay on Sunday.
Another Bryant catch was overturned. A ball deflected off his hand for an interception in the end zone, and he dropped at least two passes and finished with only one catch for 9 yards on six targets.
The Cowboys should have stuck to their original plan and given Dez a 1 year contract. Now they are stuck with him for years at an exorbitant amount of money. He is by far the most overpaid WR in the NFL this season.
