Zorstique’s Update of the Week

It was brought to my attention that we (NFCW) do not post enough articles. In the great words of SacSig “you, like O B 1 Kanobe, are our only hope” I best get to stepping. I figure with the 11,128 positive comments on the last article that I wrote, you the reader are looking for more Zorstique’s Mariners Updates of the Day. I know it can be inconvenient that I only post them early in the morning, and I do not give you valuable updates during the weekends. So the idea of posting them all in one convenient place is the type of dedication I am willing to give to you. It is this dedication that I think might motivate others to finish their highly anticipated articles. To include, but not limited to Munkey’s “How Jimmy Graham Completes the Seahawks”, Tribe’s “Joining a Gang, For Dummies”, and Brew’s “Many Intricacies of Being a Packer Season Ticket Holder.”

In the last article I covered all the updates from the the very beginning to 5/6/2015. This made the article a bit lengthy, so going forward I will try to compile the updates in a more frequent manner, thus keeping the length at a more respectable number of mouse wheel turns or finger swipes.

Please enjoy responsibly.

Zorstique’s Update of the Day: – 5/7/2015
I have nothing nice to say about the Mariners. They lost again, and are in last place (where they belong) in the AL West. I am not sure if it is just because I am new to this whole baseball thing, but how do fans keep watching when their team loses so many games? I realize that each individual game have almost the equivalence of a single set of downs in football (in the bigger scope of things), but I watched about 3 hours to see a 3 and out. 3 hours that I am not going to get back. 3 hours with nothing to show but a crushing defeat in the last seconds. 3 hours that pissed me off so much that I actually logged into SKA last night to state I was not a Happy Bob. As I said in the beginning, this is going to be a long season, damn Mariners.

It was the perfect day for the Mariners. Yesterday marked one of the few days that the bullpen did not give up a game, late and in a very disgusting way. Not only did they not blow a lead, they gave up no hits, no runs, hell not even one ball. And you thought the Mariner’s bullpen was not capable of such I feat. (I know I did.)

How were they able to pull off this amazing act? They did not play last night, and your own Silent Bob got to go to bed early.

Up next is a 9 game stretch at home, in which they will be facing Oakland, San Diego, and Boston. I hope they are able to pull off more than 2 wins during this stretch, but sadly Hernandez will only pitch 2 of these 9.

It was a good weekend if you are a Mariners fan, not so much if you are an A’s fan. When you last had an update on the Mariners, they were firmly planted in last place in the AL West. On Friday the Mariners started a 3 game stretch against the Oakland Athletics. After various A’s updates from Navorro, and your very own Zorstique’s Mariners updates, one would thing that this would be a battle against the bullpens for last place. Game 1 (Friday) did not upset. Oakland was up 3-1 in the bottom of the 7th, when the Mariners brought it back to 3-3. In a game that looked to last 15 innings, it was cut short to 11 innings when Morrison hit a 432 foot homerun. It would not be nice to talk much about game 2. So I will just say that the A’s made 4 errors, and the Mariners win 7-2. Game 3 was a fun one. Felix was the man at the pitchers mound, so obviously the Mariners won. However it was closer then it needed to be. Oakland actually drew fist blood in the top of the 3rd. Mariners made it interesting by scoring 3 in the bottom of the 4th, and one in the bottom of the 5th. A’s started coming back with runs in the 6th and 9th, but it was not enough. Mariners won 4-3, which moves them to 14-17, and in 3rd place in the AL West. Extra update: Felix Hernandez hit 2,000 strikeouts yesterday. He is now the 4th youngest play to reach this milestone. What does this mean? Felix will be winning games for the Mariners for many, many years.

The good, the bad, and the ugly.

The good: Mariners win in convincing fashion last night, 11-4. Although the Mariners are still in 3rd place, this win and with the Astros losing another game, brings the Mariners within 5 games of 1st place in the AL West. If memory serves me right the Mariners hit 5 home runs, and this time they were not all solos, which means they are worth more points.

The bad: Iwakuma is still on the DL (Disabled List) recovering from a right latissimus muscle injury. It looks like we will have to wait an additional 2 weeks before he takes the pitching mound again.

The ugly: Alright, maybe it is not that ugly, as James Paxton (1-2) did throw 6 shutout innings. However even number innings were real nail bitters. After throwing almost a perfect inning in the first, he came back in the second in what looked like he would never throw another strike again. Finally, after loading the bases he was able to get out of the 2nd scoreless. 3rd inning comes up, another almost perfect inning. The 4th was the 2nd all over again. I honestly thought that he was about one pitch away from being pulled in the second. We did not want our bullpen out in the second.. Outside of inning 2 and 4 however, this was mostly a stress free Mariners domination.
