It’s a tricky situation with Sanchez on a one-year deal and Foles heading into a contract year next year. If he is really going to unseat Foles as the starter, he would have to play better by a pretty wide margin, I would think. And I don’t see that happening.

I don’t think you need a special QB in that system. You need a guy that can process fast and make good reads based on what he’s processing.

it’s obvious to everyone that it’s a QB friendly system, Shurmur said as much yesterday….the QB just needs to be accurate and not slow as mud…. I don’t think Jake Locker would do well…. but they may not need a Top 5 QB to win a title…

Shurmur described the system as “QB Friendly”, which undoubtedly it is (though, there is no OC who is going to describe his system as QB Unfriendly), but I think you are also understating the importance of the guy actually under center. The offense was sputtering last year with Vick and was a disaster in limited snaps for Barkley.

If he plays as well as Foles did before getting hurt, I think somebody will give him a shot even if its just to keep the spot warm for somebody else, not unlike Garcia after his season with the Eagles. It’s also worth noting just how many times Ryan Fitzpatrick, who is terrible, has been a starting QB.

I think people underestimate the amount of pressure QBs face in the Eagles offense. The build of the offense is such that they want to spread you out and move the ball with the run, then when you over-commit to the run/underneath passing they look for chunk plays down the field. On those hits down the field, and the read-option element often leaving an unblocked guy, the QB has to be able to deal with pressure. That’s what Foles was so good at last year and why he has taken a step back this year, but it’s not an easy trait to locate. It’s why Sanchez as the starter makes me nervous because he was just awful against pressure with the Jets.

Casey Matthews did show some sign in skill when he had to fill in but I really want to see Marcus Smith a bigger role. The only problem is I don’t want his development being in the way of the run defense, but him and Kendrick athleticism would be awesome in the middle

I am okay with it as well. I still don’t like the pick, but by all accounts he has great athleticism and a great attitude so he is willing to put in the work to learn. And, I think all things considered, with his size/speed and the way the Eagles use their ILBs, if he can learn the position he could be a real asset there, down the road.

Looking at remaining games I’d say Dallas has the easier time of it.
Dallas has a marginally easier the last 7 games than the first 9, by winning % of opponents (which changes weekly)

I think the Cowboys’ gameplan should be as simple as possible: Almost always run on 1st and 2nd down. Occasionally throw on 1st or 2nd just to keep the Jags defense honest and possibly rip off a big play on them. Throw on third and long except for when the Cowboys are in FG range.

I disagree. I think he’s an athletic Drew Brees, though not as good a passer. I like the way he handles pressure. I think he moves with a purpose, keeps his eyes mostly downfield, and almost never gets flustered, the stuff that doesn’t show up on stat sheets.

Walter Football has the Skins taking a RT in the 1st (Andrus Peat from Stanford) at #6. I think they’re pleased with how Compton is playing and would want to give him or Moses a shot to win the job going into 2015. If they do spend their 1st rounder on OL…I’d imagine it would be on a guard where I believe we need more immediate help and there’s less in the pipeline.

Because of the shorter time in the offseason, it takes slightly longer to develop a mid 1st rounder into an All Pro in his first or 2nd year. Look at the Cowboys, they look great when run-blocking, but mediocre when it comes to pass protection, which saying a lot with Bill Callahan coaching the OL.
