Mytee – I’m pretty close buddies with a couple of NOAA forecasters out here and they work really shitty hours. There’s a drawback to getting to be wrong a lot…you have to work midnight shifts to predict the weather incorrectly the next day or so.

I bet that’s how he was taught in HS.I hate crackbacks, I played Linebacker in HS and the receivers were just as big as me and loved destroying me from the blindside. It sucked. But it was part of football.
And I don’t think that was a crackback. That’s when the receiver comes in from the flank to blindside an inside player. The defender ran around Tate to get to the ball, Tate came back with the block.

It’s a completely unnecessary and violent hit on a player who has no way to prepare for it coming. That’s why Tate loops around to get to Lee’s blind side despite being between Lee and the ball carrier the entire time. Whatever it may have been when you were in high school, now it’s a crackback on a player the rules consider defenseless.

I think you get into problems with culture, attitude, effort, etc… That is what separates these teams. That’s why you have such turnover with playoff teams year in and year out.

Cloister…I’m talking cumulative talent. Sure, Dallas has much better talent at two positions on the Oline. But look at the oline. You can say LT is a wash. You can say LG is a wash. You can give Dallas a slight advantage at C. Dallas has a HUGE advantage at RG. And Dallas has an advantage at RT.
So really, their line is so much better than the Skins because of their RG play in comparison. I suppose you could make that argument for RT play too but Free hasn’t exactly been lights out. Just lights out in comparison to Polumbus this year.

I think what that Oline has going for it is great confidence.
I remember the 2012 playoff push for the Skins. They had uber confidence and as a result, were pretty unstoppable. Even a hobbled RGIII limping into the Endzone against Dallas wasn’t enough to kill their confidence. Ran up 14-0 on the Seahawks and then all the confidence in the stadium left with one trip on the turf.

Look at how many more First and 10’s they have. The numbers between 3rd and 9+ may be similar but it isn’t telling you the whole story. The Cowboys offense is running far more plays than the Redskins. The Skins have a higher percentage of 3rd and long to plays run than the Cowboys do.
You also showed exactly my point, look at all the first and 10 rushing plays the Cowboys have.

To be honest I don’t think many people expected much from the Eagles or Cowboys defenses this season, but both units are playing extremely hard and above their talent level, and Eagles ST are really boosting the defense as well.

Dongtavious Steelwang I don’t really agree with that notion. I think there are very clear tiers in terms of defensive talent in terms of the entirety of units for each team in this league.
However, I do agree with the second part of point. Your defense is going to play as well as it “synergizes” with the other phases of your team.

Their offensive line was far and away the biggest difference in talent, and it’s showing. The defense in terms of yards allowed per play has stayed largely the same.

Well, talent is just an abstract sentiment without execution. Going into the season, I would have said that Washington has greater individual talent than the other teams, but I think their weakest links relative to let’s say the Eagles mitigate that. This is still void of coaching and scheme as well.

I bet if you take the Skins team, take every player on it, move them to Philly, take every player in Philly, move them to Washington, you’d see the teams are very similar to what they are now.
What I’m saying is that I don’t think any team in the NFL is better than any other team in the NFL on talent alone. They are relatively equal. The successful teams are successful because they are better at realizing their talent and maximizing it. I.E. the Dallas run game this year. The Philly run game last year.
The Redskins aren’t 4-18 because they lack talent. It goes MUCH deeper than that. Likewise, the Cowboys aren’t 5-1 because they have so much better talent. It’s much deeper than that.
Talent is completely overrated in the NFL.

I understand the point you’re trying to make, I just don’t agree with it. At some point, no matter how well your coach schemes, you need players to win 1-on-1 matchups, period. You can place defenders in the right place at the right time all day, but if that defender is Baccari Rambo it’s not going to do any good.

Then, of course, there’s the lack of game management by the QB; some of which has to do with the lack of a decent OL. Often the Skins don’t run the ball enough either, which lends itself to the poor game management, and is also probably caused by the lack of faith in OL.

Mytee correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think he’s saying that every player is as talented as every other player. I think what he is saying is that because of the draft and the salary cap, etc., a team that has talent at one position (like the Redskins at WR) will have to commit resources to that talent, and pull those resources away from other positions (like the Redskins defensive secondary), and that over the league that pretty much levels out.

Forcing CDC executives and other people in charge of dealing with the situation that is ongoing to waste a day on Capitol Hill to regurgitate a statement that could have been sent in an email….I have every confidence these hearings will lead to real medical advancements.

If he can take that job over next year and be mediocre…it’s a win for the Skins given that they have lots of other needs to spend their higher picks on and won’t have to blow another top pick on a RT.
Moses was graded as a 1st round type talent that needed a lot of seasoning before the draft. Those are the kinds of guys the Skins have been passing on for too long. Nice to see them take one and hear he’s improving.

That’s baseball. Winning the most games of any team in MLB the past 3 years and seeing the Nats return a similar team for 2015 has me in good spirits. How they handle things after next year does have me concerned though.

Well Vinny was okay for what he was… but they sort of took the fun out of it. Actually, they are pretty accurate. Spencer has improved every week since he returned and he was REALLY good against Seattle.
He’s one of several ‘bets’ that Marinelli made that have paid off.
He will benefit by the return of D Lawrence too.

Well, Yes, you are right, but, ‘most’ NFL games are relatively close. That’s the biggest ‘fan tease’ there is.
For instance, the margin of victory between the Boys and the Giants is less than 7 over the last 20 years or so. Most NFCE games are close.

Dallas (or more correctly Marinelli) is showing what ‘team’ defense is like.
There is an interesting theory being floated about the Dallas D and why it is playing so much better than it did last season even though it is missing at least 3 star players (Ware, Lee, & Hatcher).
The ‘theory’ is that when those guys ‘left’, that the rest of the defense realized they had to play as a team rather than just wait ot see if one of the stars would make the play. Dallsa doesn’t have any stars on the field, so they all have have to play.
Makes sense and I’ve seen examples of it in other sports ,especially Lacrosse.

And the one thing that, in my mind, should scare the shit out of every OC in the league, is that Dallas can get BETTER on defense, not worse.
I originally thought that the first 4-5 games would be ‘ugly’ for our defense. I was wrong, the ‘team’ is playing like a ‘team’ rather than 11 individuals and that has me VERY encouraged.
Are they SB contenders? Probably not. But, if they avoid the injury bug and keep improving, who knows?
The fact that they have been hit with ‘body shots’ in at least three games this season that would have seen them fold up in past seasons gives me hope.
It’s actually fun to watch the Boys play again.

Just a thought for the cerebral. With faster offenses, some stats are losing relevance. . stats are accumulative, meaning #rushes and # passess adds quite a bit to “ranking”, even if the rate (YPC) is average.
Eagles pass defenese gets caught there. On a yards per pass attempt, they are literally one of the best defense. Same thing can be said of their sacks. Sacks per pass attempt is more relevant than gross sacks.
some will not get this, some will troll this, but some of the smarter fans like fivers and others will understand what I’m saying.
At some point, stats will need to be based on rate,and not gross accumulation.
