Spotting the ball is a tough one to overturn when a player gets dragged back after forward progress like that.
It felt like an Andy Reid challenge. There’s not really a reason to believe it will be successful, but I really, really want that play to go the other way.

I don’t think anybody is saying Scherff is not a good player, it’s just that nobody really cares if he’s a good player or not, because he’s a guard. Agholor may work out; he may not. If he does, that’s a good player at an impactful position. If Scherff becomes as good as any other RG in the NFL, who cares? He’s a guard.
I think the point is that the Skins are getting significantly more out of Scherff than Philly is getting out of Nelson. Hearing shit talk about a productive pick is kinda weak given the circumstances for Nelson.

Williams plays an impact position where stats and such are quantifiable. Scherff does not. He’ll never look great in comparison during a season until pro bowls or all pro votes come in. He’s also got no shot in a ROY discussion vs QBs and RBs.
Again, I like Williams and would have been fine with either as a pick but I don’t think the Skins went wrong with Scherff. Our DL is deep. Our OL was total shit (prior to Moses coming on and Callahan working magic).
The Skins DL is terrible. And there is no player on it who is either better right now or more promising going forward than Leonard Williams.
And even if there was, that’s a silly reason to draft a guy in the top five who will play what is probably the lowest impact position in the starting 22 except fullback. And the Skins knew that, which is why they drafted him to play tackle, he just hasn’t been able to do it. If Scherff becomes a tackle, you may be onto something. If he stays at guard, that was a bad pick, almost irrespective of how good a guard he becomes. It’s just not a value position.

By starting Allen Barbre and Matt Tobin? Yeah, you’re really making a case for drafting a guard in the top 5.

I think it has more to do with the interior line playing together and actually hitting their blocking assignments than with Allen Barbre and Matt Tobin suddenly going from bad players to good players.
The Eagles are a really bad example for you to use, because in the offseason they released both starting guards, one of whom was an All-Pro and in the conversation for best guard in the game, and they went from 124 ypg rushing and 2.0 sacks allowed per game to 121 ypg rushing and 1.75 sacks allowed per game.
Rolando McClain being out is not “just as troublesome” as Sean Lee being out.
