Zorstique’s Mariners Update of the Year

…Or For the Love of Tribe

Football season is upon us. We have worked hard to line up great authors to write articles, so I said that I would not do any more Mariners articles until the post season. However I now feel obligated to do one more. One of our favorite Seahawk-curious 49er’s fan (Tribe) brought it to my attention that I have not been talking about the Mariners enough this year. I admit that my baseball IQ is still a tad low, but I thought I had done my part in keeping you guys informed on the ins and outs of the Mariners this year. Apparently I was wrong.

I tried to branch out a bit this year, and cover areas that were still confusing me. Like why they were having a hard time winning at home at the beginning of the season, whether the Pythagorean theorem of baseball could help us project the Mariners standings, and even explained why I got into baseball. Even Melania Trump got into the updates, which reminds me that Vegas still owes us a Pokémon article. Tribe still wants more, and I want to help him.

The Mariners are going through a tough spell right now, losing 8 of the last 10. This included getting swept by the evil Texas Rangers. Not the best time for this to happen, as they were just a couple of games behind in the Wild Card race, and trying to catch up on the Rangers. Luckily the Mariners are enjoying a much needed day of rest today, which they can use to right this ship. Unless I am mistaken, we are down to the final 29 games. If we go back to our Pythagorean theorem projected standings, we were supposed to end the season 95-67. Technically we can still achieve this, as we are currently 68-65. We just need to make sure that we do not lose more than 2 games from here on out. This sounds like a difficult journey, as we still have a 4 game series against the Rangers, and two more series against the Astros. Both teams have been difficult for the Mariners this year. Not to mention a series against the Blue Jays, who are leading the AL East. Luckily the roster size has increase, and the Mariners minor league teams are all doing very good. I hope this means that there are a bunch of good prospects that we can bring up. We will need one heck of a run down the final stretch to propel the Mariners into the post season.

We have had some adversity to over come this year. Changes in management, Nintendo selling off their shares, and the difficulty we ran into in the first half, including losing almost all our starting pitchers at some point. We went through the Wade Miley experiment, we traded away my favorite young pitcher, Mike Montgomery, and went through some closer controversy. Our trade for Corey Seager did not come to fruition, and we went almost all year without someone who can play left field. Despite all this, we still have a chance. Mind you we need to go on a run of epic proportions, but that just makes it that more exciting. I am willing to admit that it is possible that the Mariners do not pull this off. I am willing to admit that they might lose more than 2 more games. I am willing to admit that the Trade for Corey Seager might not get done next year either. But the boy, Tribe, Griffey and I are in for the ride.
