Cowboys make a statement in Seattle

The Cowboys offensive line has gotten a lot of praise through the early part of this season and they showed they are worth every positive word in Seattle on Sunday.

Tyron Smith, Ronald Leary, Travis Frederick, Zack Martin and Doug Freedominated the line of scrimmage all day long against the league’s best run defense and the Cowboys piled up 163 rushing yards on the way to a 30-23 victory that leaves them 5-1 and looking like a much bigger contender than most people felt as the year was getting underway.

DeMarco Murray had 115 of those rushing yards, 21 of which came on a sprint into the end zone with 3:16 seconds left to play in the game. That score gave the Cowboys back the lead that they had relinquished twice in the second half thanks in large part to gaffes on special teams and came after Tony Romo and Terrance Williamshooked up on a highlight reel throw and catch to the sideline to extend the drive on a third down. Murray’s score gave the Cowboys a deserved win on a day that saw their defense come up with the same kind of domination as the offensive line.

The Seahawks scored 20 of their points after a blocked punt, a muffed punt, a botched snap and a terrible punt by Chris Jones that set the Seahawks up in Dallas territory. Without those short fields, the Seahawks offense moved the ball once and otherwise spent the day looking completely befuddled by a Dallas defense that was supposed to be a terrible weakness. The Cowboys forced the Seahawks to go four plays and out after Murray’s touchdown, a stop that led to an insurance field goal, andRolando McClain picked Wilson with 42 seconds left to ice the win once and for all.

In the end, the score was much closer than the game and the Cowboys made a strong statement about their bona fides by walking into Seattle and pushing the defending champs around the field.

If the Giants win on Sunday night, the Cowboys will have first place in the NFC East all to themselves with a game against the G-Men on the schedule next week. Another win there and the Cowboys will be sitting pretty thanks to their running game and defense as we head into the second half of the season. Anyone who thought that would be the case kept awfully quiet this offseason.
