Cowboys’ road success could mean Super Bowl path

IRVING, Texas — Jason Garrett likes to say the Dallas Cowboys have to be their best whether they play at home, on the road, in a parking lot or on the moon.

Until the NFL moves games to a parking lot or the moon, the home and road will have to suffice. At home, the Cowboys posted a 4-4 record in the regular season. On the road, the Cowboys are perfect this season.

With a win Sunday at FedEx Field against the Washington Redskins, the Cowboys will post their second undefeated road record in franchise history. They went 7-0 away from home in 1968.

Since the 1970 merger, seven teams have posted perfect road records. Six of the seven made it to the Super Bowl. Only the 1990 San Francisco 49ers failed to make it to the title game, losing to Bill Parcells and the New York Giants in the NFC Championship Game.

The 2007 New England Patriots, 2001 St. Louis Rams, 1989 49ers, 1984 49ers, 1982 Redskins and 1972 Miami Dolphins made it to the Super Bowl.

So maybe there really is something on the line for the Cowboys Sunday?
