why would Dez get less than Thomas? Riddick doesn’t address it directly, but I’d guess this paragraph hints as to the reason:
“The question that seems to continue to linger with Bryant is whether he can be trusted to continue to do the right thing once he has the kind of financial security that would come with a contract extension. He is a vital component of what could be an offensive juggernaut being assembled in Dallas, and I believe a deal in the range of $30 million to $35 million in total guarantees is not out of the question.”

Remember when Tebow was drafted? He was lauded for his character? The exact same thing was said about Thomas that year. McDaniels drafted very high character guys.
Guess that has something to do with it. Plus, Thomas has put up better numbers.

NBC Washington’s Dianna Marie Russini reports Robert Griffin III (ankle) will start Week 9 against the Vikings.Russini has had some good info nuggets and been first on all-things Redskins multiple times this season. RGIII practiced in full on Wednesday, with multiple teammates saying he looked like his old self. But coach Jay Gruden has continued to say they won’t rush RGIII back until he’s 100 percent healthy and ready. That time appears to be now. Colt McCoy can ride high on his Monday night win over the Cowboys for the next few months. Gruden should name a starter Thursday or Friday. Signs continue to point to it being RGIII.

He’ll be ready for a bit role against the Texans, likely something in the neighborhood of 5-7 touches. It’s not a drain on LeSean McCoy’s projection at all.

I’m not sure it makes sense to aggregate it like that. Total numbers Dez is better, sure. But in the last two seasons, Thomas’ numbers are better and I think that would weigh much more heavily in a contract negotiation than what guys did in years 1 and 2.

I think Dallas has shown to pursue smaller guys that lack prototypical length in favor of speed. I think NY needs to find an elephant/leo player for the system they’ve been trying to run.

Similar to the Skins with Kerrigan and Murphy. I think all of them are complimentary/package players. There’s no Robert Mathis/Von Miller types. That’s what the defenses need. that dominant pass rusher.

I don’t know how much I agree with that. I think pass rushing is, in a lot of ways, situational. And the Eagles have guys like Cox and Cole who nobody is going to mistake for elite pass rushers, but they can get pressure on 1st/2nd down to get the QB off his spot, and they play the run well. I think the key for a team that doesn’t have that stud rusher is to set up third and long. That’s what the Seahawks did last year and the Ravens the year before.

I still want him to run. I still am ok with him taking hits. I am still fine with the fad read option that will clearly never stick around. I still want to see him try to make a spectacular play every now and then. I also want him to get the ball into the playmakers hands more now that their playmakers are better. Reed and D-Jax should make his life significantly easier.
You all act like you’ve never been wrong about anything Bob related. The fact is we’ve all been wrong about aspects of his career thus far. Stop pretending like you all have seen him through clear eyes to date. His rookie year shit on most of what you all were predicting. I’m only referring to the preseason talk where you took issue with the overwhelming opinion that Griffin took way to many unnecessary hits. You said you had no problem with it, that every QB had the same chances of getting hurt even in the pocket because it’s a violent game, and that you only cared about seeing exciting football from your QB.

I stand by that. Every QB still takes a shit ton of hits and I don’t think that Bob’s runs are inherently that much worse than getting blasted in the back a la Romo. I still think he’s safer on the move controlling his body and would like to see him make smart decisions.
I want him to be exciting as shit and to do the things that only a QB with can do. I don’t want him to morph into some pocket passer over night cause I don’t think that’s any safer than being a dual threat, read option QB.
I may have gone overboard back then but the premise is still the same. I want Bob to run when he can and keep D’s guessing.

Just watched the Redskins skull fork again. This series was incredible. IIIrd qtr…Murray breaks off a very nice 51 yrd sprint/run down the sideline and Breeshard Breeland comes from nowhere and chases him down Darrell Green/Dorsett style for TD saving tackle on the 6 yrd line . The very next play after he busts his ass 50 plus yards down the opposite side of the field they test him with Big Dez on a jump ball in the corner and it wasn’t even close, really incredible play all around. Then, AGAIN, they went to Dez but this time on a completely different route, a slant, and he STILL stuffed Bryant. Thats pretty fucking beast right there. Thats a baller. He had an incredible game. Won the game.

Given that nobody on the Cowboys schedule had blitzed more than 12 times all season, and that nobody approached 50% all year, and that the Seahawks and Giants both blitzed just 5 times in the previous 2 games against Dallas, it seemed that the NFL had backed off Romo and the idea that the best way to attack a Jason Garrett/Tony Romo defense is to play coverage. That must have pleased Haslett to see that perhaps Dallas was letting its guard down. Especially with the way the Cowboys had punished the Giants every time they dared to try a big blitz (6 or more) with relative ease. Let that be a message to anyone who challenges the Cowboys with pressure! Haslett likely had to hide his smile.
He called for pressure over and over again. Big blitzes? He sent 7 of them. How about bringing pressure on 3rd Down? Well, the Cowboys tried to complete a pass on 3rd or 4th down on 12 occasions last night, and the Redskins chose to blitz those 12 situations 100% of the time. 12 for 12.
And as you can see, based on 5-13 on 3rd and 4th down conversions and just 17 Dallas points, the Cowboys did not pass these tests with flying colors. They struggled through the air all night long and it followed a script that goes back to 2010. Either the Cowboys lose these games and the passing game struggles, or they win these games on some late-game magic tricks (2011 twice, 2013 at Washington) by Romo and the offense after struggling most of the afternoon.

I’m rooting for him, I know that doesn’t mean much coming from a Redskins fan but I feel like has lost his way as a QB. I am hoping the time out with the ankle injury, Cousins and Colt both showing what they showed, and Jay having more time with him will bring him back to form. Probably true, but his personality on the field as a QB then vs now is completely different. In 2012 he seemed calm and decisive in the pocket, and when scrambling. Last year and against the Texans it seemed like he was in a panic all the time. If we see him keep his composure then I’ll be happy.

Watt is a potential gamebreaker, but that defense as a whole is not that impressive. If Foles can hold onto the ball when he gets hit, which hasn’t really been a problem since week 1, Watt doesn’t worry me too much. Just locate him before the snap, and try to go the other way.

I think he said he likes under center because of the view it gives him in seeing the play develop, making it easier to identify run lanes. On this particular play though, I don’t think it would have made much of a difference, because they’re in goal line and you don’t really want the RB to have to identify possible cutback lanes so much as you want to create one lane for him to hit. If Peters executes that block, the playside is wide open with Casey coming across and sealing off the back side.

I think it’s the line. When you look at the plays where the running game has struggled this year it’s not that there are guys unaccounted for or the defense is doing something totally unexpected (with the 49ers game as a possible exception), it’s that guys are just flat out missing blocks. Against the 49ers they were able to juggle their safeties between deep and in-the-box looks that messed up the Eagles gameplan, but most teams can’t get away with that.

I wonder what the Skins end up doing with Hall now. He’s going to be expensive to keep on as a rehab case and they can save a bunch ($2.75 milish) each year going forward by cutting him. I’d like to see him released and brought back on a cheap deal to see if he can recover and/or transition to FS and I think he’d be agreeable and I doubt too many teams would try to make him a bigger offer to get him to leave.
I would have liked to see us line up Hall, Amerson, and Breeland heading into next year though at CB 🙁

I would argue that Romo’s back needs the rest and treatment moreso than the win/loss being the main criteria. Dallas could beat AZ with Weeden. They should beat Jax. Then, a bye. Give Romo the 3 weeks to recover as I think that back won’t hold up unless it improves some.
Just my hater opinion though.

romoGOTTAgo As long as he is mobile and able to complete a normal throwing motion (unlike the SF game) they will start him. They don’t care about pain or discomfort and I’m sure he doesn’t either. On the bright side he usually plays really damn good when he’s in pain, as long as his throw motion or grip on the ball isn’t affected.
