That was probably too risky as well, given that he was the franchise QB. But that was an LCL, and it was the playoff chase, and he was a QB who could have avoided the vast majority of that contact. But Alonso isn’t a QB or a Guard, and it’s the ACL he tore just a year ago! This should just be a time of preparing him mentally for the inevitable IR designation and at least a surgery to see if they need to repair further.

Justin – I’d roll with Jones this week if I didn’t have a stud to start over him. He’s clearly going to be more than a complimentary back to ALF and is likely going to get goal line touches. I would imagine that after last week…they’ll get him closer to a 50/50 split in carries early and then go with the hotter hand in the 2nd half.
Both ALF and Jones are good plays this week, IMO, but there’s clearly the risk that the other ends up being the hot hand.

That is true with every position. My point is that it is easier on average to have one or two good young RBs in the building than just about any other position. (up there with SS and maybe interior LBs)

Teams in general are notoriously good at picking some positions and being horrendous at picking others. Think Bill Belichick being able to draft any DB versus the amount of linebackers or random WRs he’s been able to make great.
I think if you looked at Belichick’s selections over the years, you’d see he misses on DBs as much as anyone, but he maximizes his effects by picking so many with all the extra picks he accumulates.

Starting deep in the backfield is not good for him and running outside zone is also not good for him (it wasn’t when he was on the Cowboys). So far this season Murray’s avg yards to first contact is -.1yds, last season it was +2.82.

The ‘swing’ will be Atlanta. After Atlanta & the Saints we get a huge boost to the defense with Hardy, McClain, & most likely Gregory coming back. Weech I don’t buy that Chip’s plays being easy to call out as a viable reason for failure. Peyton runs an incredibly straightforward and noncomplex scheme in Indy and Denver, he basically just lays it out to the point where it says “here’s what we’re doing: now try and stop us.”

I think that’s part of it but articles like the PFF one don’t tell the whole story. Chip’s offense has never had a big playbook and that’s actually been a strength in the past, because he has tendency breakers in which he lines up one way three times in a row and runs the same play, then on the fourth he does the opposite despite giving the defense the same look. That was no secret in 2013 and it’s not a secret now. I think the issue is personnel more than scheme and I think a lot of it is just cohesion. More than half the offense is new starters (including Ertz starting over Celek and Agholor/Huff starting over Cooper and Maclin).
