NFC East Week 1 Predictions

Of the four teams, only the Eagles managed to escape the offseason without any alarming scandals.    The Cowboys are in a death match with their All Pro running back.  The Redskins 7 time Pro Bowl left tackle is a no show.   The Giants flubbed the offseason by trading away one of their two dynamic playmakers only to go into the season with much uncertainty at the position.   Reports seem to indicate that Zeke may sign and be back with the team this week.   Trent Williams is looking more and more like an ex NFC East player, and the Giants look to only be without suspended Golden Tate.   Eli is still controlling the offense as both rookie QBs take a seat and learn from the vets.    Both Daniel Jones and Dwayne Haskins should benefit greatly from the sideline right now.

The Eagles open the season as 9.5 point favorites over the Washington Redskins.   That’s kind of insane.  The Eagles defense will regress a bit this year, though the offense is thought to be better than ever.   The Eagles offense matches up with a tough Redskins defense who many believe should be one of the better units in the league this year, led by a young talented front 7.   If the Eagles can move the ball and score this week, green bloods all over should rejoice and figure they are in for one hell of a season.   When the Skins have the ball, uncertainty looms largely over the left side of their offensive line with Donald Penn and Ereck Flowers now manning that side.   The Skins also have only 1 in 6 receivers with any kind of NFL experience.  Yes, only Paul Richardson has played an NFL game of the Redskins receiving corp.    Say what you will about that, but what is certain is the Eagles have no idea what to expect.   Add in a healthy Jordan Reed and Chris Thompson, and the Redskins offense is one huge question mark.   Darius Guice and Case Keenum also make their Redskins debuts.   Again, say what you will about the Redskins offense, but it is, in fact, a complete mystery to the league and the Eagles right now.   The Eagles continue to have question marks at linebacker and corner back.   I’m more intrigued to see if this mystery offense can move the ball at all on an Eagles Defense that should be at least top half of the league good.    The football fan might enjoy the Skins Offense vs Eagles Defense matchup, the football guru should be truly excited for the Eagles offense facing the Redskins defense.  It’s strength vs strength.   If the Redskins have any hope of not being a laughing stock this year, they have to cover this spread.   I think they do.

    NY Giants @ Dallas (-7) 4:25 pm

The Cowboys open the season as 7 point home favorites over the NY Giants.  That’s also kind of insane but a little easier to swallow than the 9.5 the Eagles are getting.   Question surround the running back position of the Cowboys.   Zeke is still unsigned.  Tony Pollard has stolen some of his thunder with an impressive rookie preseason.   The Cowboys changed offensive philosophy this offseason with the hopes of being less predictable and a bit more modern.   They are about to spend a lot of money on Dak and Amari so it should be smart for them to see if those two can win them games with the Ewok likely sidelined.   The Giants spent a bunch of draft picks on their defensive front.   They have two monster defensive lineman to help their run game.   They still lack any sort of outside edge pressure.   This should be another good matchup of Cowboys strength vs Giants strength.   Can the Giants stop the pass?  Can the Cowboys continue to pass?    As long as Eli is the starter for the Giants, this team isn’t going anywhere.  He’s toast.   Hopefully for Giant fans, this will be the last stretch of games they ever see #10 on the field.  I believe the Cowboys defense will be too much for the Giants offense.   The two linebackers will swallow up Barkley.   The edge rush should get to Eli and make him rush, which is where he’s the worst.    Cowboys cover with the help of a defensive touchdown.
