“RIVER” (RAS) PRESENTS: Purdy for MVP? Some insane stats.

The most insane Brock Purdy stat: if you take out all of his throws *beyond* the line of scrimmage, he’d still lead the NFL in yards per attempt and EPA/dropback. He’s averaging 8.8 yards per attempt and 0.38 EPA on throws of 0 air yards or less.

Another insane state: the 49ers have been at a blocking advantage (more blockers than defenders in the box) on only 37% of their snaps. The Titans are second lowest at 52%. The 15-point gap is as wide as the gap between the team in first (CIN) and the team in 25th (IND) Really you can make the argument that Tua is still doing a far more impressive version of the system QB thing. He has a better EPA/dropback v. 1-high and 2-high coverages, but Purdy sees *way* more 1-high, so he has him beat on overall dropback EPA. Simpson paradox thing.

Here’s another great Purdy stat: Purdy’s explosive play rate (20+ yards) is 14.5%. It’s second only to 2013 Vick for single-season explosive play rate since 2000. But! ON EXPLOSIVE PLAYS, Purdy is averaging 15.4 air yards per attempt. That is 683rd among 778 seasons since 2000 “Bro pulling out all the stops to try to bash Brock…yet basically telling everyone how he’s playing great no matter what part of the field he attacks.” The obscure statistical split known as air yards….

One more thing: Purdy isn’t even completing the behind the LOS passes at an elite rate. He ranks 8th in completion percentage and has had only 2 of those passes dropped, which ranks seventh lowest. His off target throw rate is around league average.
