Zorstique’s Mariners Update of the Week

I am about to go on a mini-vacation for the reminder of the week (and by that I mean I am taking some time off to get some home work done.) If I do not end up at the Mariners games, I will try to stop by and send some Mariner’s Updates (live) your way. Because some of you have come to rely on Mariners Updates, I will leave you with about a weeks worth to marinate on until I return, in the traditional Weekly Update fashion. Enjoy!

Zorstique’s Mariners Update of the Day – 5/19/2016
I have been a long time Mariners fan since 2015. In all my years, I have not seen the Mariners play like they have this year. Sure they lost last night, but it is the strategy that went into last nights loss, that I think explains why they Mariners are so much different this year. The bad management of the Mariner’s past traded Chris Tillman to the Orioles back in 2006. Since then he had gone 6-0 against the Mariners, last night making it 7-0. Winning against Chris last night would have been a tall order, so the Mariners instead went into strategy mode. Get through Tillman, bring in the closer and wear him out. The Mariners play game 3 against the Orioles today, in less than 3 hours. The chances of their closer being ready is unlikely. The Mariners basically took out the closer (with the best bullpen in baseball) for their last game of the series. I have learned that baseball is a marathon, not a sprint. Winning series is more important than sweeping a team, which leads to a team sweeping you..

In a battle between 2 first place teams (AL West verses AL East) the Mariners took the series yesterday with a 7-2 victory. Unless I am mistaken, the Mariners have taken every away series (outside of a tie in Houston.) Now if the Mariners can get their act together and pull these types of numbers at home. Up next is a 3 game series against the Reds. It is also an away game, so basically Cincinnati has no chance. With no rest after, they will be heading home to take on the mighty A’s. The A’s already swept the Mariners at home (but we got them back with a sweep in Oakland.) Who will take this much anticipated rematch?

The Mariners took the series (3-0) against the Reds this weekend, advancing to 26-17 for the year. Mariners placed Marte on the DL after sliding into second base, which means O’Malley will likely take the SS duties for a while. Up next though is a home stand where the Mariners do not win almost every game, like they tend to on the road. We will not see the Mariners outside of Safeco Field until next month. First up is the mighty A’s, who had a very difficult time in New York. Are they angry heading into Seattle? We shall see in 5 short hours.

Zorstique’s Mariners Update of the Day – 5/24/2016
In what started as an epic pitching duel between Taijuan Walker and Rich Hill ended in a error filled 8th inning for the Mariners. The mighty A’s took the Mariners 5-0, extending their win totals at Safeco field to the exact same numbers. (edit, they are ONLY 4-0) O’Malley did not take the SS duties as I predicted yesterday, instead Chris Taylor took the job, to disastrous means. The A’s took advantage and made the Mariners look like a little league team for half of an inning, with Taylor over throwing 1st base by 3 miles. Good thing Taylor got all of his fuck ups out of his system in a game that was probably not winnable anyway. The Mariners still have a chance to take the series against the mighty A’s, but lets be realistic, these are home games we are talking about..
