It is the start of the anticlimactic finish to the College Football season. It’s time to go bowling. For most seniors, it is their final chance to put on the pads, lace up the cleats, strap on the helmet, and step onto the football field. The games start Saturday, so let’s look at a few of the more interesting match-ups in the first week of the Bowl season.
Las Vegas Bowl
Houston vs San Diego St | Dec. 17th, 12:30pm (ABC)
The Houston Cougars come in with a 9-3 record having beaten some big name Power 5 conference schools, while San Diego St comes in at 10-3 having wins over Cal and Utah St. Houston will have a new face at Head Coach (Todd Orlando), as Tom Herman left for the Texas job. For two non-Power 5 schools, this has the makings of a great match-up between the Mountain West and American Athletic Conference.
Poinsettia Bowl
BYU vs Wyoming | Dec. 21st, 6pm (ESPN)
BYU comes in with an 8-4 record, while the Wyoming Cowboys are 8-5. BYU lost all 4 of their games by a grand total of 8 points to the likes of; Utah, UCLA, West Virginia, and Boise State. The Cowboys come in after losing the Mountain West Conference championship game by 3pts to San Diego St. Their most impressive win was against Boise State, who beat BYU.
Famous Idaho Potato Bowl
Idaho vs Colorado St | Dec. 22nd, 4pm (ESPN)
The Vandals come in to this match-up with a record of 8-4, while Colorado St comes in at 7-5. Both teams had impressive records down the stretch; with Colorado St winning 4 or their last 5, and Idaho winning 6 of their last 7 games. Idaho comes in representing the Sun Belt Conference, and Colorado St is out of the Mountain West. This is the first time since 2009 that the Idaho Vandals have been bowl eligible, so there might be some added motivation for them to prove their worth.
