What’s Changed?
For the first time since 2011, someone other than Seattle has the #1 Scoring Defense. That is a Football Eternity, and an unbelievable achievement. For centuries, Football Historians will look back on this era with wonder and amazement at the consistency displayed by the Legendary Legion of Boom.
I’m sure they will view the 2016 Season not as the end of an era, but as a minor setback in a solid and ongoing Dominion of Defensive Dominance. The Seahawks’ indestructible nucleus finally felt the wrath of the injury bug, with All-Pro’s Kam Chancellor, Michael Bennett and Earl Thomas all missing significant time.
Add to that the 5th hardest schedule in the league – A schedule that saw them facing ALL-FOUR of the Top Scoring Offenses (with SIX games against Offenses ranked in the Top 6) – and we begin to understand how amazing this Defense truly was/is. All of Seattle’s Defensive starters are under contract next season (how’s that for brilliant roster management?) and there’s no reason to believe they can’t pick up right where they left off.
But enough about all of these historical streaks in Seattle. For once this season, I’d like to talk about Russell Carrington Wilson. The Stats might suggest that he had a down year – A career high in interceptions, along with a career low in Passer Rating. But considering the palpable adversity this young man faced, I’d have to say it was the most impressive season yet of his already brilliant career.
The Seahawks are more dependent on Russell Wilson than ever. The numbers have already been parsed and dissected, and they clearly show that -in 2016- when Russell plays poorly, the Seahawks are likely to lose. That may seem obvious, but it hasn’t always been the case – which has begged several blasphemous questions like “What would Russell look like WITHOUT Marshawn Lynch? Without the #1 Defense? Without his amazing mobility?”
Well, we saw all three of those things taken away from him this season. Most Qaurterbacks would have retired in the face of scuch overwhelming odds. But Wilson won 10 wins, and an NFCW Championship. Not too shabby. Especially when you consider that the Seahawks were 25th in Rushing Yards, 24th in Rushing Yards per Attempt, 23rd in Rushing First Downs. AND they have the worst Offensive Line you’ve ever seen in your life.
In an NFCW filled with strife and uncertainly, it’s good to know that The Division is in good hands. Russell will continue carrying the entire Division, single-handedly, into the Realm of Respectability – even with a proverbial hand tied behind his back.
The Seahawks will face the Detroit Lions at home in the first round of the playoffs. Fortunately for them, they have a lot of experience playing against teams that are doomed to suck forever. Speaking of which…
My Analysis:
The other NFCW Teams do not deserve to be analyzed. I’m beginning to understand why Sando always hated them. The Rams blew an opportunity at an “All-Red” Offense, robbing us all of hilarious troll-fodder and ensuring that this will just go down as nothing more than another forgettable, pointless Rams Season. The Cardinals are pitiful and the 49ers are once again transitioning from one Nightmare Regime to the next.
There’s no reason to believe that any of these teams will ever be good again.
And now, how about your feedback? What an amazing season it’s been here at the BKOB Report! I’d like to thank all of the Knowledge Seekers and their families for being so wonderful. Let’s keep in touch in the Comments Section below!!
