By now, you’re fully aware that long-time Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger has announced his long-expected retirement. “Big” Ben has been the AFC North’s most durable fixture since the Steelers drafted him in 2004, and has outlasted every AFC North player from that era. Love him or hate him, he’s been an undeniable presence in our collective sports-following lives, and fans of the AFC North will undoubtedly feel that void more fully when they see someone else line up under center for the Steelers this fall.
A few memories of mine: The Haloti Ngata-induced broken nose. The aorta incident. The borderline Santonio Holmes pass/catch in Super Bowl XLIII. The mullet. “Cerebral”. “Drink like a champion”. Two titles* and a ton of playoff appearances.
And, let’s face it…Hall of Fame-level success on the field.
How will you remember Ben Roethlisberger?
