Greetings, Knowledge Seekers
It’s been the Seahawkiest off-season ever – with lists, gifs, and AI-generated recaps galore!! I know you don’t want it to end and you’re probably feeling very emotional right now. That’s normal, Knowledge Seekers, and certainly nothing to be ashamed of. But we have reached the exciting conclusion!! If you’re not up to speed on the List so far, please re-read all of my articles. Now, let the listing COMMENCE!!
04) Cortez Kennedy
DT 1990-2000
NFL Defensive Player of the Year 1992
3x First-team All-Pro 1992-1994
2x Second-team All-Pro 1991, 1996
8x Pro Bowl 1991-1996, 1998, 1999
Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2012
I was only a kid during Tez’s career, but I understood that he was large and very frightening [1]. And during an era when the Seahawks did very little winning, he was one of the few players my dad didn’t hate. In 1992 the Seahawks’ Offense scored the fewest points and gained the fewest yards of ANY TEAM in a 16-game season, yet Tez and the Defense managed to stand out – with Tez nabbing 14 sacks, 4 forced fumbles and Defensive Player of the Year honors [2]. This was indicative of the team in the 90’s, and it makes you wonder “what if” Cortez had played for a Defensive mastermind at HC, like Pete Carroll of Mike Macdonald *sigh* Tez for Prez!! RIP
03) Bobby Wagner
LB 2012-2021, 2023-Present
Super Bowl XLVIII Champion
2x NFC Champion 2013, 2014
6x First-team All-Pro 2014, 2016-2020
3x Second-team All Pro 2015, 2021, 2023
9x Pro Bowl 2014-2021, 2023
Holy catfish!! One of the best Linebackers ever and the highest ranked Defender on this list, Bobby Wagner was a lynchpin of success and a frequent team captain during the greatest era in the team’s history (so far). Wagner has never had fewer than 104 tackles in a season since being drafted by the Seahawks. In all but two of those seasons, he’s had fewer than 10 missed tackles – including 1 missed tackle in 2018 [3]. Needless to say, his statistical dominance and knack for big plays have inspired many Golden Boners throughout the years [4].
Before we reveal the two Finalists in BKOB Presents – The Top 12 Seahawks, let’s do one final round of Honorable Mentions. These are players who are worth Mentioning, because of how Honorable they are.
Joe Nash – NT 1982-1996, 218 games (team record), First-team All-Pro 1984
KJ Wright – LB 2011-2020, Super Bowl XLVIII Champion, 941 tackles
Eugene Robinson – S 1985-1995, 983 tackles, 42 INTs
Tyler Lockett – WR/KR/PR 2015-present, 62 Total TDs
Does it get anymore Honorable than that?? I say “No!” Anyone missing?? Let us know in the comments section below. They probably already appeared in previous installments of BKOB Presents – The Top 12 Seahawks, or they’re just not quite Honorable enough. Now, back to the list!!
02) Steve Largent
WR 1976-1989
NFL Man of the Year 1988
First-team All-Pro 1985
4x Second-team All-Pro 1978-1979, 1984, 1987
7x Pro Bowl 1978-1979, 1981, 1984-1987
NFL 100th Anniversary All-Time Team 2019
Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 1995 (1st Ballot)
The original Seahawks HOFer, and the man who put the team on the map. Old guys love him!! Steve Largent played his entire career in Seattle and retired with every receiving record worth having [5][6][7][8][9][10]. And that’s back when you had to be tough, see? [11] The team even named their “Man of the Year” award after the guy. A member of the inaugural team in 1976, he exemplified what the new team wanted to be all about and the fans have loved him ever since. In fact, the only reason he’s not #1 is because he is a white, cisgender male.
01) Walter Jones
LT 1997-2009
NFC Champion 2005
4x First-team All-Pro 2001, 2004, 2005, 2007
2x Second-team All-Pro 2006, 2008
9x Pro Bowl 1999, 2001-2008
NFL 100th Anniversary All-Time Team 2019
Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2014 (1st Ballot)
Yes, the #1 player is a lineman. But not just ANY lineman!! Walter Jones is the most dominant player on this list, and he made it look easy [12]. The man allowed 23 sacks in 13 seasons – over 5,500 passing downs. Yeah, that’s real. 2 of those sacks came in his final game when he was playing with an injury. And he was caught holding EIGHT TIMES his entire career. He was equally dominant in the running game, helping pave the way for Shaun Alexander’s record breaking MVP season in 2005, when the Seahawks had the league’s highest scoring offense [13]. He once famously skipped training camp, opting instead to push SUVs around [14], then gave up zero sacks all season. This blend of consistency and dominance has earned him the ultimate honor of being named #1 on BKOB Presents – The Top 12 Seahawks. I’m sure he’s very proud.
