It was a crazy weekend for College Football fanatics. It seems to happen every year, just when you feel the picture is becoming clear, things get turned upside down. It was supposed to be a fairly routine week for many of the top ten teams, but five of them lost. What does this mean moving forward? Let’s take a look…

    Top Ten: The Playoff Possibilities

    #1 Alabama (10-0)
They’re pretty much a lock. They would have to lose to Auburn AND lose in the SEC Championship game to even consider leaving them out. They are all but guaranteed the #1 playoff seed.

    #2 The Ohio State (9-1)
They need to win their next two games, including the rivalry game against #3 Michigan. Even then, they need a loss from Penn State to make the BIG 10 Championship game. It will be difficult, but certainly not impossible to make the playoffs without winning the BIG 10 Championship game.

    #3 Michigan (9-1)
They control their own destiny. They need to win out to be in consideration. A loss to Ohio State, or a loss in the BIG 10 Championship game probably eliminates their playoff hopes.

    #4 Clemson (9-1)
The Tigers are another team controlling their own destiny. They win out and they’re in, but another conference loss would put Louisville in the driver’s seat.

    #5 Louisville (9-1)
The Cardinal are in a tight spot. They need another Clemson loss to make the ACC Championship game. If they do not get the opportunity to play in that game, it is very possible teams behind them could jump past them with a conference championship game victory ( See Washington, Wisconsin, and Penn State).

    #6 Washington (9-1)
They absolutely need to win out. If they finish the season 12-1 as PAC 12 champions it will be hard to keep them out of the playoffs. I personally believe they will jump into the 4 spot under this scenario.

    #7 Wisconsin (8-2)
The Badgers have a path, but must win the BIG 10 Championship game. If they finish 11-2 as BIG 10 champions with losses to currently #2 Ohio State and #3 Michigan, they will have a strong playoff argument.

    #8 Penn State (8-2)
The Nittany Lions playoff path is a little more narrow than the Badgers in my opinion. They can finish 11-2 as BIG 10 champions, but their loss to Pittsburgh may come back to haunt them.

    #9 Oklahoma (8-2)
They have no chance without complete chaos.

    #10 Colorado (8-2)
    They have no chance period.

    Recommended Saturday TV Schedule:

9am (ESPN) – #2 Ohio State @ Michigan St; The Spartans are looking for something positive this season. Obviously, a win against #2 Ohio State would go a long way. For the Buckeyes, they need to continue to impress the playoff committee, which means they hope to win big.

12:30pm (FOX) – #22 Washington St. @ #10 Colorado; Are the Buffaloes really a top ten team? Can Washington St continue to rise in the polls heading into the Apple Cup? This game may answer some questions..

4pm (ESPN) – #4 Clemson @ Wake Forest; Are the Tigers really the 4th best team in the country? Louisville just beat Wake 44-12, so Clemson should do the same, right? We’ll see..
