Oliver’s Week 2 Power Rankings

    425 255 Oliver James

There is one thing that I have learned about ESPN, NFL.com, CBS, SI.com, Yahoo Sports, and Fox Sports. It’s that their power rankings are horrendous. But mine aren’t.

    Power Rankings. LET’S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

    1. New England Patriots

With no Brady or Gronk, they still flew across the country and surprised the Cardinals on national television. Impressive as it gets for this week.

    2.  Green Bay Packers

The Packers were given all they could handle by an upstart Jaguars team but their experience winning games like this proved crucial in the win. Jordy Nelson looks good so far and the Packers offense seems to be much better than last year.

    3. Pittsburgh Steelers

The Steelers could not have gotten off to a better start, trouncing another playoff team on their home turf. The offense was firing on all cylinders despite Bell’s absence and they look to be one of the teams to beat thus far.

    4. Cincinnati Bengals

Cincy earned a tough win over the Jets and it looks like they will yet again battle the Steelers for the AFC North crown.

    5. Carolina Panthers

The Panthers could be a few spots higher if Gano made that kick. Coulda, woulda, shoulda, but didn’t.

    6. Oakland Raiders

A gutsy call to go for a 2 point conversion has the Raiders sitting at 1-0 for the second time since 2002, their last winning season.

    7. Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks are fortunate to be this high after nearly laying an egg at home against the woeful Dolphins. Their offensive line needs to step it up.

    8. Denver Broncos

The Broncos escaped with a 1 point win in a Super Bowl rematch with the Panthers after Gano botched the game winner, but their defense did not look nearly as sound as last year. Only time will tell.

    9. Arizona Cardinals

Kind of an embarrassing loss for the Cardinals when you consider that the Patriots had 6 starters out. Palmer looked a step slower and their defense was exposed by Garoppolo. Not a good start.

    10. Houston Texans

The Texans earned a solid win over a team that they should beat. Their quest to defend their AFC South title is off to a good start, as they are the lone undefeated team in the division.

    11.  Minnesota Vikings

Defense is going to be key for the Vikings this year as their quarterback situation is mediocre at best. They were up to the task on Sunday.

    12. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The talk of the offseason was how much the Falcons improved, but the Buccaneers quickly made that case for themselves by silencing the Falcons in Atlanta.

    13. Detroit Lions

The Lions ran the ball down the Colts’ throats, earning an impressive road win out of the gate.

    14. Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs needed a huge comeback to defeat the woeful chargers at home on Sunday. However, Jamaal Charles continuing to be out is very worrisome.

    15.  New York Giants

If the Giants are going to make a case for the NFC East title this season, they are going to have to look a lot better than they did against the Romo-less Cowboys on Sunday.

    16. New York Jets

One New York team broke hearts and the other got their hearts broken. The Jets happened to be the latter. Disappointing start as the Jets did a lot right and still lost.

    17. Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens beat the Bills in a game that was as ugly as ugly gets. Overall, I’m not convince that they will have a rebound year like so many predict.

    18. Jacksonville Jaguars

Even though they came up short on their final drive, the Jags have to be happy with how well they hung with the Packers. Excited to see what this team can do this year.

    19. New Orleans Saints

The poor Saints. If only their defense could have held of the Raiders final drive.

    20. Washington Redskins

What an embarrassing performance for a team trying to make the playoffs two years in a row. Can’t let that happen again.

    21. Indianapolis Colts

A comeback for naught was the story for the Colts last week.  A trip to Denver doesn’t make things any easier for them.

    22. San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers looked dominant in every way against the Rams except for quarterback play. They may not be as bad as we all thought.

    23. Philadelphia Eagles

Dominating the lowly Browns is not exactly a tall order, but hats off to Carson Wentz and the new Eagles regime. They aren’t complaining.

    24. Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons supposedly improved on defense, but watching Jameis Winston pass all over them told me and everyone else that there is still a lot of work to be done.

    25. Dallas Cowboys

While they certainly showed grit in a 1 point loss to the Giants, they are now 1-12 in their last 13 games without Romo. He’s out for another 7 weeks, so get used to more Cowboys losses.

    26. Buffalo Bills

The Bills offense was appallingly bad against the Ravens, earning only 160 total yards in a 13-7 stinker.

    27.  Chicago Bears

It was shocking to see the Bears lead at halftime in Houston. However, they failed to score in the second half, and we know the rest of the story.

    28.  San Diego Chargers

The Chargers showed signs of improvement jumping out to a 21 point lead in Kansas City. If only they sealed the deal.

    29. Miami Dolphins

Ryan Tannehill played terrible and the Dolphins had no ground game and yet they still came less than a minute from winning in Seattle. But the Dolphins did as they usually do and botched it up.

    30. Los Angeles Rams

Ouch! Not exactly the way they wanted to make their grand return to California.

    31. Tennessee Titans

The Titans opened the season with a flat and uninspiring loss to the Vikings, making it their 28th loss in 33 games. They would be the worst, but…….

    32. Cleveland Browns

Holy hell this team sucks. And now their savior is out for 4 weeks. More losing ahead.
