The offseason has begun for three of the four AFC North teams, and they’re not sitting idle. Interviews have been scheduled, coordinators and coaches are filling in the gaps in their resumés. A few big names are circulating above the rest of the potential coaching hires, but the AFC North, despite rampant speculation, will retain all four of its head coaches in 2024. The lone exception might have been Steelers coach Mike Tomlin, but he and the team appear committed to crafting out an extension of some sort.
Hey, continuity matters, right?
Texans 10, Ravens 34
Despite playing a mistake-free game, the Texans and uber-rookie QB C.J. Stroud simply couldn’t move the ball against a formidable Ravens defense, particularly in the second half, when the Ravens’ offense decided to catch up with the defense’s excellent performance.
Key numbers:
- 16-22, 152 yards, 2 TDs, 11 carries, 100 rushing yards, 2 TDS – QB Lamar Jackson
- 4 catches, 41 yards – WR Zay Flowers
- 13 carries, 66 yards, 2 catches, 11 rec. yards – RB Justice Hill
- 7 tackles, 2 TFL – LB Roquan Smith
- 3 tackles, 1 TFL, 2 QB hits – DT Justin Madubuike
- 19-33, 175 yards – Texans QB C.J. Stroud
- 5 catches, 68 yards – WR Nico Collins
Key moment:
With 12:04 remaining in the third quarter, QB Lamar Jackson produced a 15-yard scramble for a touchdown, giving the Ravens a lead they would not relinquish.
Those other guys
THE BENGALS will lose offensive coordinator Brian Callahan to the Titans, who have hired the longtime assistant as their next head coach…Callahan’s first task will be determining if young QB Will Levis is indeed the QB of the future most in the organization believe him to be…quarterbacks coach Dan Pitcher appears to be the leading internal candidate to replace Callahan in Cincinnati, but there are allegedly external candidates in the mix as well.
BROWNS GM Andrew Berry claims the team is set to bring back injured RB Nick Chubb next season, and has indicated a real interest in bringing back late-season hero QB Joe Flacco…with the hire of Brian Callahan in Tennessee, the Browns may lose his father, Bill Callahan, currently the Browns’ offensive line coach, to the Titans…the Browns will sign former Alabama offensive coordinator Tommy Rees as their next tight ends coach.
THE STEELERS will interview Rams QB coach Zac Robinson for their vacant offensive coordinator position…the team will likely bring back free agent CB Levi Wallace, who has shown interest in staying in Pittsburgh and probably wouldn’t warrant much of a raise over his current $4 million salary…aging DT Cam Heyward suffered through a subpar year, but insists he will not consider a pay cut as the team explores other, more needy areas of the roster to improve.
See ya’ll next week.
