MTGriz umm the signing bonus goes over the life of the contract. He got the money up front. There is an amount associated with each year that becomes the dead cap space. So if you cut him early the dead money is still associated with those years

No I actually watched his highlight reel…it is predominantly a shotgun qb, arm strength is average…accuracy is pretty good….but Connor Cook plays under center in more of a proset style…throws the ball into some seriously tight windows with guys…hits them in teh facemask on the run. He is better.

Desert Pantera There is something about the guaranteed money being accelerated for the team to pay immediately and other times they pay it off over what should have been the life of the contract. I don’t know the exact rules for those but that 5 million of guaranteed money is all that is left on Lynch’s contract. They would either pay that right away or it would be 2.5 mil per year on their cap space

Also see 2014 Rangers. Healthy in 2015 ( and even then they lost their ace) and they in playoffs. They did not suck because of regression. How many bad years have the Spurs have? Those Mavericks teams that won 50 games in like 13 straight years. Maybe can argue Red Sox but they have been awful two straight years since world series. Good teams just don’t become medicore without things like injuries.

Lynch does have a dead money cap hit of 5M next season, but if he is cut then the team can spread it out over 2016 and 2017, keeping it at the 2.5M that it would be if he played out the contract. They could also choose to take the full 5M in 2016 if they would prefer to have a little extra in 2017.

MTGriz JohnnyP31 To my knowledge, the acceleration is on the team. They can decide to pay more upfront or not on all guaranteed money, or spread it out. I’m no cap savant though, and I have heard of players still being paid by teams 4-5 years after they are cut.
