AFC North Mid Summer Junk

In roughly a month, NFL rookies and special teamers will have reported to their respective training camps.

As we say every offseason, it’s about damned time.

Other than the movement of a couple of former Packers within the AFC North, there really hasn’t been much activity lately.  But that won’t stop this information train from rollin’.  Here’s the latest, in all of its overwrought glory. Enjoy.

Former Steelers and Ravens (and current Browns) WR Diontae Johnson apparently has issues with cold weather.

My Take:  Good luck, Cleveland.  If Johnson manages to make it out of training camp with headlines like this, it surely doesn’t bode well for his chances of a successful season.

Bengals DE Trey Hendrickson is working out in Cincinnati.

My Take: It’s an encouraging sign that Hendrickson is choosing to work out close to the organization.  Few realistically expect Hendrickson’s holdout to extend into the regular season on the eve of his free agency.

In more Diontae Johnson news, the Browns WR feels QB Kenny Pickett will emerge as the preseason starter from a crowded QB room.

My Take: Johnson is the only Browns WR to have taken regular season snaps with Pickett, so his familiarity would likely contribute to his opinion.  Needless to say, Johnson’s credibility is a little suspect at the moment.

Steelers LB Patrick Queen isn’t satisfied with his performance last season.

My Take: Nor should he be.  If players aren’t striving to improve every year, they’re finished. Conversely, calling last season a “disappointment” seems a bit excessive.

    Next time.
